A further £216,805 donated to Scottish Charities

Twenty-three Scottish charities are benefitting from awards totalling £216,805 in the final tranche of donations for 2011 from the Bank of Scotland Foundation. This latest tranche brings the Foundation's donations for 2011 to over £1.2m to charities across Scotland.

Regional awards: -

  • Glasgow (8) - £77,693
  • Highland and Islands (2) - £15,000
  • Lothian (3) - £41,342
  • West Scotland (3) - £20,750
  • North East Scotland (2) - £10,750
  • South Scotland (5) - £51,270

The awards from this latest tranche cover a wide range of charities including The Hidden Gardens Trust; Canongate Youth Project; The Cyrenians and Roxburgh Citizens Advice Bureau.

In today's economic climate, funding is vital for charities' day to day running. The Foundation's donation will help these charities to: -

  • run volunteering courses in areas of high deprivation;
  • upgrade failing IT systems;
  • provide hot meals and showers for the homeless in Aberdeen;
  • provide financial education for those excluded and disadvantaged from society.

Kate Guthrie, HR Director, Insurance, Lloyds Banking Group and Chair of the Foundation's Board of Trustees commented, “We have had a fantastic response to the first year of the Small Grants Programme. The work that charities do, and support they provide to their communities is so important throughout the year, let alone over the festive period. We are delighted to have helped so many charities to provide a great service and look forward to supporting many others in 2012.”

The Bank of Scotland Foundation is an independent charity working with charities across Scotland supporting people and their local communities. The Foundation receives an annual donation of £1m from Lloyds Banking Group to fund the Foundation's Small Grants Programme and Employee Matched Giving Scheme.
